Ready to teach your old (or young) dog some new tricks?
In honor of Dog Training Education Month, commemorated in February, and the City of Fort Lauderdale’s recent adoption of making all parks pet-friendly, The LOOP will debut Leash Up at The LOOP starting Saturday, February 8. Don’t miss out on leveling up your pup’s manners while sharpening those sits and stays just in time for the FTL Pet Fest.

The free monthly dog assessment and training session will occur on the second Saturday of each month, starting at 10:45 a.m. Sponsored by Dog Training Elite Broward, each session will begin with an individual assessment, where trainers evaluate the dog’s behavior, social skills, and obedience level. This personalized approach ensures the training session is tailored to meet the dog’s needs.

Following the assessments, participants will join a group training session focusing on practical skills to improve leash manners, reinforce basic commands, and address common challenges such as jumping or pulling. The training emphasizes positive reinforcement techniques to help the dog adapt to public spaces, interact politely with other dogs and people, and enjoy their time at Fort Lauderdale’s pet-friendly parks.

  • Registration is required and limited to 16  pets with parent participant per session
  • Early registration is encouraged due to limited availability and assessment calls before the first group session.
  • If accepted, please ensure your dog is always on a 6′ leash, and bring water, treats, and waste bags.
  • A muzzle is required for reactive dogs.
  • Waivers must be completed and returned with an updated anti-rabies vaccination report.

ABOUT City of Fort Lauderdale Pet Rules
In November 2024, the City of Fort Lauderdale passed a new rule allowing domestic, non-service dogs in all 110 parks across the city.
This initiative allows pets to enjoy more public spaces while ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
When visiting Fort Lauderdale parks, please keep the following rules in mind:

  • Dogs must be on a leash or tether no longer than six feet.
  • Pets must be under the control of an adult owner or handler at all times.
  • Pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
  • Aggressive pets may be removed from the park by the city.
  • Pets cannot create excessive noise that disturbs others.
  • All dogs must have current vaccinations and a license.
  • Pets are not allowed in athletic fields, courts, playgrounds, water splash pads, swimming areas, beaches, or any body of water unless permitted by law.

Fort Lauderdale also offers a designated Canine Beach, where dogs can play off-leash in certain areas. Dogs must remain leashed in other areas of the beach.
Weekend permits for Canine Beach are available from the onsite ranger for $7 per dog.
By following these rules, we can ensure Fort Lauderdale’s parks remain a welcoming and safe environment for everyone to enjoy.
