Widely recognized as South Florida’s Queen of Soul, Valerie leads a band of seasoned musical veterans who move effortlessly across classic and modern R&B, soul, jazz, reggae, classic rock, and today’s favorites. Valerie Tyson’s first Friday Night Sound Waves performance took place on my 49th birthday—April 27, 2018. It was a cloudy night, but we always say Mother Nature loves music, and the rain stayed away. What followed was pure joy: a conga line to All Night Long sung by Valerie, accompanied by the Valerie Tyson Band, led by our Friday Night sisters Roberta Albuquerque and Andrea Araujo—a moment that somehow morphed into a birthday song. What’s better than that? Nothing. No better way, place, or people I could imagine spending my birthday with.
